How to Hit the Perfect Flop Shot

How to hit a perfect flop shot
Nick McKinlay of the Billy Casper Golf Academy shows tips for hitting a flop shot.

Most golfers love to try to hit the flop shot. It’s the result that is usually not as loved.

For many amateurs, the result is sometimes a chunk just in front of you. Other times, it’s a skull well over the green or even a shank off the hosel. But it’s that one perfect flop shot that lands close to the pin and sticks close that keeps you trying.

So just how do you hit a consistently solid flop shot every time?

In the video below, Director of Instruction Nick McKinlay of the Billy Casper Golf Academy illustrates a few simple tips to hitting the flop shot the next time you need it on the course. Included:

  1. The mistake many amateurs make when hitting a flop shot and how to avoid it
  2. What kind of stance to take and where to position your weight
  3. Where the clubface should be pointing

BONUS TIP

In the video below from Callaway Golf, see Phil Mickelson’s tips for the flop shot and watch him hit a flop shot over Roger Cleveland’s head from only one club length away.

Take these tips to the course next time you play and you might lower your score and impress your friends…maybe just don’t try to hit it over them quite yet.
