Go Now: St. George is Sensational

Southern Utah Playground is Golf and More

For decades, the Masters has been the shotgun start to spring golf—warm days, 30-SPF sunscreen, knee-high bermudas and those luxurious, stress-free tours of a favored golf course. And one of our favorite places to play is in St. George, Utah, a carefree golf destination that’s less than a 10-hour drive (or a non-stop 1:40 flight on SkyWest) from Denver.

Here are five compelling reasons why:

1. An usually warm winter is augmenting the awesome course conditions that illustrate St. George’s 11-course Red Rock Trail, which includes Sand Hollow Resort’s 27-hole complex (designed by John Fought), Sunbrook Golf Club’s 27-hole facility (Ted Robinson/John Harbottle), highly rated Coral Canyon (Keith Foster), and scenic Ledges Golf Course (Matt Dye).

2. Long favored as a four-season respite, St. George’s acclaimed red rock country is also home to the 229-square-mile Zion National Park and its world-famous sandstone cliffs, majestic Snow Canyon and Sand Hollow state parks, and the spectacular northeastern reaches of the 54,000-square-mile Mojave Desert. That’s eye-candy fodder for balloonists, hikers, rock climbers, road and mountain bikers, skydivers, zip-liners, horseback riders, ATV’ers and water-sports enthusiasts.

3. Southern Utah is a favored base camp for artists, and visitors can see it up close and personal at the 5th Annual Kayenta Street Painting Festival in nearby Ivins (April 26-27). Other must-experience events include the 3rd Annual Southern Utah Culinary Festival (April 24-25), Washington City’s Annual Cotton Days (April 25-May 8), and the Ironman 70.3 North American Pro Championship (May 2).

4. St. George’s sweet enticements are definitive, and so are its lodging alternatives. Anchoring this increasingly popular destination is the luxurious Inn at Entrada near Snow Canyon State Park, centrally located Inn at St. George, award-winning Red Mountain Resort in nearby Ivins, and Sand Hollow Resort in nearby Hurricane.

5. St. George is less than 40 miles from Mesquite, NV, which opens even more opportunities to Colorado travelers including casino gaming, premier accommodations, headline concerts, world-class events, adrenaline-junkie activities and big-ticket golf.
