Earning a Top 10 Best Golf Courses You Can Play in Nevada ranking is, by anyone’s measure, a daunting undertaking. After all, this is a region where designers named Fazio, Dye, Nicklaus and Jones already have orchestrated numerous world-class routings, making it that much more difficult for newcomers and wanna-be’s.

Yet in mini golf mecca Mesquite, Conestoga Golf Club has earned a slot on Golf magazine’s prestigious 2016-17 listing with a stunning, impeccably conditioned target-style layout crafted by Gary Panks.

Brilliantly routed into a moonscape-like countryside of craggy canyons, gnarled rock outcroppings and intimidating elevation changes, the 7,232-yard challenge is a risk/reward joy made even more sumptuous by Troon’s storied agronomy and guest management programs.

“Being a Troon-managed facility, much of our appeal starts with how we treat our guests,” says General Manager Ryan Stemsrud. “We’re certainly hospitality centered, and we make a point of treating guests like they are members for a day.

“And the Panks-designed golf course, besides always being in excellent condition, is a great test for all player levels,” he explains. “For me, it’s a thrill to play a layout that naturally flows from one canyon to the next, surrounded by amazing mountain and desert scenery.”

The five-tee experience also comes with a shot-saving GPS smartphone app, available as a free Android or iPhone download.

Before or after your round, enjoy first-class fare and spirits at the club’s rustic 1880 Grille, celebrated for its stacked-five-inches-high Black Angus burgers, private label draft beer and an outdoor pavilion with sunset-splashed views of towering Flat Top Mesa.

Conestoga Golf Club is an anchoring amenity for Sun City Mesquite by Del Webb, an active-adult community that includes among its four-season allures an expansive recreation center with indoor/outdoor pools, game and craft rooms, indoor walking track, tennis, pickleball, bocce ball and fitness studio.

Immediate-area golf includes the Jack Nicklaus-designed Coyote Springs, Wolf Creek (Dennis and John Rider), 36-hole Oasis (Arnold Palmer), Falcon Ridge (Kelby Hughes/Cresent Hardy), CasaBlanca (Cal Olson) and even more courses in nearby St. George, Utah.

Mesquite is located 670 miles southwest of Denver, 80 miles north of Las Vegas and 39 miles southwest of St. George, Utah. For more, go online here.
