Defending Champ Rohrbaugh one back, Elway 21st at Colorado Senior Open

Denver, CO – Doug Rohrbaugh of Carbondale, CO fired a 2-under par 70 to move into sole possession of second place just one back of tournament leader Bill Harvey of Hampton Bays, NY after the second round of the HealthONE Colorado Open at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club.

Both players started the day in a tie for 4th and Rohrbaugh made his move in the morning wave by posting a three-birdie, one-bogie performance. Harvey trumped Rohrbaugh in the afternoon wave by posting a 3-under par 69 (tied for low round of the day) with an eagle and two birdies on his front nine with just a single bogie late in his round. The two will be joined by Ron Schroeder of Montgomery, TX whose 3-under par 69 round including six birdies and three bogies. Schroeder finished in a tie for 3rd place in 2013, seven strokes behind champion Rohrbaugh.

The leaders aren’t counting out the penultimate group of Mike Northern of Colorado Springs, Steve Schneiter of Sandy, UT and Barry Conser of Scottsdale as the three are tied for fourth place at 1-under par (143). Conser finished second to Rohrbaugh in 2013 and both Schneiter and Northern have played in multiple PGA Championships in their careers.

Low amateur honors are up for grabs on Friday as well with four players, including NFL Hall of Famer and Denver Broncos GM/EVP John Elway, within four strokes of one another. Kent Moore of Cherry Hills Village, CO, a member of the CO Golf Hall of Fame and the original chairman of the Colorado Open Golf Foundation, stands at 1-over par 145 and is closely followed by Thomas Musselman of Telluride, CO (2-over), Sean Forey of Morrison, CO (3-over) and Elway (5-over).

Sherry Andonian-Smith of Castle Rock, CO, the first female contestant ever in the 15th annual senior championship, missed the cut by one stroke after slipping into a tie for 57th after a 10-over par round of 82.
